Billiard Variations - Russian Pyramid Part 2

by tabletalker on Feb.08, 2009, under Uncategorized

BiiliardWish you could try your hand at another interesting indoor sport? Why not try out for Russian Pyramid billiards if you are in the mood for experimentation? Russian Pyramid is an variation of billiards and has rules and regulations quite different from the regular games of pool and snooker you are accustomed to playing.

Russian Pyramid billiards is played with 16 balls, of them 15 ivory-white in color and 1 red that serves as the cue ball with which the game starts. The balls are of 68 mm or 71 mm diameter. The standard size of the table used for this game is 12 ft, however, you can also play it on 7 ft, 8 ft or 9 ft table.

You need to choose an opponent if you are interested in trying out Russian Pyramid, or if you have a group of friends, divide them into two teams and start playing. The pockets on the table are only 2-4 mm larger than the balls. So be careful when hitting a ball, a foul could cost you a loss of a hard-earned win.

You can win a game of Russian Pyramid billiards after you have pocketed 8 balls.

Learning To Win Again - Making 8ball Great Once More

by snooks on Jan.16, 2009, under Lessons

Pool table with cue ball hitting #2.Learning to win again - making 8ball great once more

After we have not played for a while we sometimes get lazy to win.  We lose the initiative to go out to win and it becomes a burden upon us.  In occasions like these w need to step back from the normal and refocus.

Prepare well
When we prepare well we increase our chances of making that vital shot.  Make sure that if you’ve been away from it all for a while or if you not been playing well that you get down to the practice room.  Try out all the shots which bother you, after all there’s no need in practicing the shots you can manage already.

Commit to win
Make a commitment now as you read this that you will win x amount of games next time you play.  Don’t suddenly expect to win every game right-away.

It will all take time but one things for sure, each game will make you a better player.

Digitally Assisted Billiards

by snooks on Jan.11, 2009, under Video

These guys have done an amazing job creating a digitally assisted billiards system.  The systems basically is a webcam, projector and some software.   This simple ideas are always the genius ones.  The system maps and projects the trajectories of the cueball and object balls.  This really would be a great learning tool.

Some great footage here.  I want one!

by admin on Jan.04, 2009, under Video

A description of the DVD below from Andreas Efler the creator of this DVD video

While working on my book about three-cushion billiards
an idea to make a DVD slowly developed. With a good
friend, Robert Leitner, this DVD arose and with it,
material never seen.
Using highspeed(Up to 16000 pictures per second)and
infrared cameras, we can now see billiards from a
different angle.

The bonus material contains:
Bubbles of soap blasting, waterdrops falling into its
natural element, lightening matches and much more.
Using a highspeed camera taking thousands of frames per
second, the results were and are amazing.

DVD-Type: DVD 5
Format: Pal 4:3
Sound: PCM stereo
Length: 25min.
Genre: Sport, Science
